Chapter One
She just wanted to feel good.
At 23, Beatriz Amma was a fitness influencer who loved bikini modeling, building her life in Los Angeles. She had worked hard for her body and she wanted to celebrate it. A fraudulent med spa reached out to her for B-12 injections — but ended up injecting her with products ordered from Alibaba.
Within 24 hours, everything changed.
Chapter Two
Her body began eating itself alive.
Welts erupted across her skin. Fever. Chills. Pain so acute that anything touching her skin was unbearable. Beatriz was rushed to the hospital, where doctors diagnosed her with Mycobacterium abscessus — a multi-drug-resistant, flesh-eating bacteria — contracted from contaminated vials at the spa.
"My skin was bursting open. My body was eating itself alive. I thought I was going to die."
She spent three months hospitalized and underwent nearly 20 surgeries over four years to remove infected tissue. For three years, she endured a grueling six-hour daily regimen of intravenous antibiotics. Her medical bills exceeded $2 million. The spa had no insurance. Attorneys couldn't win the case.
Doctors told her her skin would never be the same again.
Chapter Three
She chose to stop hiding.
In 2022, Beatriz began sharing her story online. Millions of people watched. They saw a woman who had been through something devastating — and who refused to let it define her in the way the world expected. She realized she wasn't the only one who struggled with scars, body image, and difficult-to-accept physical changes.
But through all of it, something kept nagging at her. She still wanted to go to the beach. She still wanted to feel sexy. And she couldn't find a single swimsuit that felt right for where she was now — for a body that carried a real story, for a woman who wanted coverage without hiding, appeal without overexposure.
The woman she was designing for wasn't in any swimwear campaign she'd ever seen. So she decided to build it herself.
